Building for the Future on the Gulf Coast

After Hurricane Ivan in 2004,  the destruction to property was devastating and getting back to normal was an enormous task to undertake. .  Money was needed immediately to make the fundamental emergency repairs such as sand removal, and restoration of the electricity.

In many cases it became necessary to assess the homeowners of an association to cover the emergency repairs.  These assessments were unexpected and proved especially burdensome.  This became clear after having a conversation with a homeowner amongst the sand and debris that filled the courtyard of my condo on in Gulf Shores. She asked me if we forgot to pay our insurance bill and was confused about the assessment she had been ordered to pay.
